1. I don't understand hand washing your dishes when you have a dishwasher. It turns out a lot of people I know do this. I don't get it. We had to wash and dry our dishes growing up and it was horrible.
2. Last night, for shits and giggles, my husband and I created the plot for a YA novel, based on every cliche we could come up with (illness, unrequited love, guilt, familial issues, trusty sidekick, etc...). I'm fairly confident we could get it published... under pseudonyms, of course.
3. I can't believe Sandra Bullock is fifty. Good for her. I don't want to like her, but I do.
4. My Alama Mater was under water. Poor Pauley Pavillion.
5. I made my to-do list for the next week and a half until we go back to work. One word: shit.
6. Every time I complete a journal (here's a post explaining my life-long habit) I go back to the beginning and see what life was like (usually a year or so in the past). I'd say 90% of the time the worries I had then had completely resolved themselves. A year ago I was worried about not being able to get pregnant, the pressure of getting my IB students through their senior year, and who knows what else. Now, those things are water under the bridge. I hope and pray that the current worries I face are resolved by the time I finish this volume.
7. Duncan Hines or Betty Crocker or someone needs to create individual servings of of brownies and cakes for those of us who don't want to make a huge batch. A little packet you add water and maybe a tablespoon of oil to, pop in a ramekin, and then back for fifteen minutes. It's genius.
8. This video of the obviously very over-tired little girl is both sweet and hilarious:
9. Whoever invented the Summer Sleep Swaddlers deserves a prize. They obviously sprinkled sleeping powder in those things- Sawyer has been putting himself to sleep ever since we started using them and just slept through the doorbell ringing, the dogs barking, and the door alarm beeping in the laundry room where he's napping (it's dark and cool, okay?). He knows he can eventually bust out of it when I just use a blanket, so he works himself up instead of knocking himself out. The day I have to stop using them will be a sad day indeed.
10. I have to reread Catcher in the Rye again (for the fourth time in my life). Will there ever be a point where I can just jump into teaching a novel, or will I always reread?

Love the perspective of #6 and I've always wondered about #10...
ReplyDeleteI have a dishwasher I never use. It's quicker and more efficient to wash by hand. I suppose if I had a big family, I'd think differently? IDK. I just never use the dishwasher!
ReplyDeleteI have always hand washed my dishes and I feel fine about it. I don't hate doing it and I don't love it either. I feel that washing dishes by hand is quicker if you need to use a certain plate or bowl now, and I have always thought that it saves water too. I have read that using the dishwasher apparently saves more water, but I don't know if I believe that.
ReplyDeleteI heard a radio show about a hospital that insists that mothers go home after delivery with the swaddling blankets because they really do work to soothe little ones.
ReplyDelete#7- search pinterest for "cake in a mug" or "brownie in a mug" and you will find dozens of recipes for individual cakes or brownies that you can make in a coffee mug in your microwave.
ReplyDeleteI know, I've seen them, I'm just being lazy. If I'm going to start measuring things I might as well just bake a whole pan!
DeleteThat video is so hilarious!
ReplyDeleteSandra Bullock looks so amazing, I can't believe she's 50.
ReplyDeleteI went from a house that had a dishwasher to one that doesn't. And it sucks.
It is great to be able to look back at who you were and how you felt....I wish I had a journal that went through the years. Mostly I can look at my various stories and other writings.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
I've been a "dishes in the dishwasher" person for most of my life. Then we moved to Germany and we never had enough dirty dishes to justify running the thing. (And the dishwasher was confusing!) When we moved to El Paso, we continued to hand wash. Until! I started teaching again. Now I'm way too lazy to wash by hand. I don't care how long it takes for me to fill up the dishwasher, I don't care if I'm out of knives, I'm not washing those things by hand any more!
ReplyDeleteI used to write in a diary up until mid-high school. Wish I had the foresight to keep going with it. Also, I don't have those books anymore. Perhaps my mother had thrown them out somewhere along the line? Or sold them at a yard sale. That was always my brothers and my remark when someone wondered where something we had as a family when we were younger went to...Mom sold it at her yard sale. She really did stuff like that. Mom was a character, if she thought she could fetch a dollar, off it went :) Have a good week-- I forgot to participate today, busy, busy!
ReplyDeleteLove our dishwasher - we are a two person family (hubby and I) and we use our dishwasher daily (sometime more often on weekends). Something I can definitely not live without! My tumble dryer is a close second :)
ReplyDeleteWe rinse the dishes before they go into the dishwasher, and if we have too many to fit we usually wash those so as not to have the same problem the next time. But generally we don't wash dishes just because.
ReplyDeleteI agree...Sandra Bullock - wow!
My daughter would sleep for hours when we swaddled her, but my son...he knew just how to wriggle out of those things. He still slept but he was never wrapped up the way we left him.
In reply to your brownie desire...Betty Crocker came out with a microwavable single serve cake/brownie dessert a couple years ago where you basically just add water. They're called Warm Delights. Check them out here: http://www.bettycrocker.com/products/warm-delights :)
