Top Ten Tuesday- Winter TBR

Let me just put this out there: I read zero of the books on my fall TBR list. Zero. I find this actually sort of impressive, to be honest. I'm slightly more confident that I'll have at least a tiny bit of success with this winter one, but who the hell knows. I'm not a book psychic. I can't jump inside my head and figure out what I'm going to feel like reading. Anyway.

Someone finally learned how to use something other than Pic Stitch!

1. Blindess by Jose Saramago- For book club... next week. I should probably get on that.

2. The Awakening by Kate Chopin- Next novel my students are set to read. I read it once or twice in college, but I definitely need a refresher.

3. The Circle by Dave Eggers- Just received it for my birthday and am completely fascinated by the premise.
4. Ina May's Guide to Childbirth by Ina May- Since apparently no one has invented a way to beam my child out of me (ala Star Trek) I'm going to have to forcefully remove it myself at some point.

5. The World Strongest Librarian by Josh Hanagarne- I find Mormonism pretty fascinating. Hell, I find religion fascinating... as long as I'm not being forced to go to, like, to church.

6. The Girl Who Played With Fire by Stieg Larsson- I've had it forever. The desire is non-existent, but the obligation and guilt are ever-present.

7. Prisoner of Heaven by Carlos Ruiz Zafon- I've loved everything I've read of his so far!

8. The Women by TC Boyle- When do I need an excuse to read Boyle?
9. We Need New Names by Noviolet Bulawayo- I've read a few African authors this year and have thoroughly enjoyed them. Perhaps Africa is becoming my new South America.

10. 13 Ways of Looking at the Novel by Jane Smiley- Seems like a great way to segue from poetry back to novels at work.

Do share- what will you be reading while bundled up under blankets and sipping hot whatever?

  1. Hope you enjoy Prisoner of Heaven! It really expands on the world that Zafon's established in his previous 2 adult books :)

I should get around to Chopin's The Awakening one of these days...

    Happy reading! :) My TTT

  2. I remember reading the Awakening in high school, I feel like I should read it again for fun and see what I think now.

  3. some interesting books here, I really need to finish the Zafron series and read Prisoner of Heaven but I don't want it to end. Look forward to reading your thoughts on The World Strongest Librarian

  4. I've had Blindness sitting on myself for years and still haven' managed to read it! Oops...and The Awakening was always one of my favourite classics. And I only discovered The Shadow of the Wind was the first book in a series! I can't wait to read the others!

Honestly I wasn't a huge fan of the Stieg Larson series...the first book is especially difficult to get through due to some really graphic scenes that seem unnecessary. I will say that it's worth it to finish the series though as it makes what happens in the first book make a lot of sense. I guess it's just one of those series that's good to check off the list anyway!

  5. "I'm not a book psychic." Ha! That made me laugh. :) I get really picky about the books I read. I probably only read half the books I checkout from the library. I see books I want to read, but then I'm not in the mood, or the writing isn't for me, or I find something else that just grabs me.

I'm curious about The Circle. I've heard good things about it. I've got a different book by Eggers. Don't know if I'll read it though, we'll see.

  6. I just recently listened to The World's Strongest Librarian on audio and really enjoyed it -- I was hoping for a bit more of his life as a librarian, but it was still a very interesting look at all the different aspects of the author's life.

  7. I've read only one of these - Ina May's Guide to Childbirth, which I read with both of my pregnancies. I also found Birthing from Within helpful. I'm an inveterate library user, though, and didn't buy either of them. But you could read my reviews of all the pregnancy books I read here: http://alibrarymama.wordpress.com/tag/pregnancy/ in case you want to read summaries and save your actual reading time for fiction.

  8. Ooh I hope you do get around to the Stieg Larsson one. I really enjoyed that trilogy!
And looking forward to hearing what you think of Blindness.. I loved the concept but struggled to get into it.. but I'm definitely in the minority I think. I've heard great things about it otherwise!

Thanks for stopping by my TTT!
