Top Ten Tuesday- Child Names

The Broke and the Bookish are once again giving us a freebie, so I decided to go with the Top Ten Character Names I'd Potentially Name My Child.

And no, I'm not pregnant (you get to a certain place in life and you have to include this statement when you say anything referencing offspring). And none of these names are actually on the potential table, I just like them. That's it. So get off my back already.

1. Atticus from To Kill a Mockingbird*

2. Celie from The Color Purple

3. Calliope from Middlesex*

4. Benjamin from the Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving*

5. Lulu from Lulu Meets God and Doubts Him

6. Claire from The Piano Teacher and The Beautiful Ruins

7. Tucker from Juliet, Naked

8. Sebastian from The House of Tomorrow

9. Helena from Midsummer's Night Dream*

10. Emma from Emma

*particular favorites

  2. There are so many good names that I wouldn't actually name someone. Disappointing. But I love your list!

  4. I've always loved the name Ophelia, but it seems like in naming a potential daughter that name, I'd be dooming her somehow. I LOVE the idea for this list!

  5. Great list, I love the idea (everyone's choosing such awesome topics this week)! I can't even begin to imagine what names I'd choose from literature (though I've always loved the Russian variant for the name Helena) xD

Here's my Top Ten for this week =)

  7. I read a book when I was 13 that gave me my future child's name (I don't have kids yet). But I love finding a name in a book that I love and want to give my child. This was a fantastic list.

  8. I like the name Benjamin but only when the kid is actually called that. I'm not overly fond of intentionally naming kids one name when you fully intend to call them something else.

Ah, Atticus. I'm a big fan o' that one too.

  9. Great list! I know someone who named their kid Atticus. And I know someone who named their kid Atreyu (from "The Never Ending Story" I assume.)

And I love watching your novel word count grow on the side of your blog! It's keeping me inspired to keep chugging along with mine.*

Think there isn't time to read? Some of the best books I've ever read are short books you can read in a night. Here's my Top Ten Best One-Night Reads!

  16. Such a great idea for a list! I love names that mean something. It's great to have something to connect with because of your name. Nowhere near ready to have my own kids but I'll definitely be naming them after book characters!

  17. Love your list! I think Celie and Calliope are my favorites (for naming children). I can see a stately bulldog in my future with the name of Atticus...must go toss the idea around with the hubby.

  18. Atticus and Calliope were actually on my list of potential names for Pippa. Dylan rejected them both outright. The man just doesn't appreciate good literature.
